The first teaching job I ever held was as a teacher of autistic children, which I took on in about 1981, working for the National Autistic Society only 16 years after the first ever school for autistic children had been opened. I became Principal of the school some time later, then moved into adult provision – a total mystery for teachers at that time, thence to management consultant – a total mystery for all of us to this day. I qualified in neuro linguistic programming, added training to my list of competencies and began the adventure of developing a business coaching adults with Asperger’s Syndrome. I began in total frustration about 17 years ago. I was an advocate for a man with Asperger’s for five years: eventually everybody agreed it would be better for me to try to provide something than to continue to argue for non existent provision. So I started a business uniquely offering coaching to people with Asperger’s syndrome, which I have been doing for 17 years, sometimes employing others to support me, which is also instructive. Nowadays I am looking particularly at the impact people can have on each other and using that influence to explore what can be created by individuals working together. |

I qualified as a teacher in 1979, after a few years of working with children in other situations.
