Page 1 of 6 It's been a long time...Well hello! The last newsletter went out in September of last year, and I do apologise for the delay in producing this one. Thinking back over these past months, I am struck with how many hugely significant events have passed us by, which seemed significant at the time and now... well, now they don’t. Obama was inaugurated, taking over from, um... and then didn’t some banks collapse, oh and Iceland went bankrupt didn’t it? Do you even remember Sarah Palin? For families living with Asperger’s these stories, while interesting (or not!) seem to be like the weather – they come and they go. The long story of Asperger’s and how it affects your life rolls on, a continuing backdrop to everything else. I recently went to meet a parents group in North East London, and was struck by how things remain constant – problems either just stay stuck or are replaced by other problems as your life slowly becomes defined around difficulties. It is not helped by that particular Borough being so unwilling to be actively helpful and so reluctant to accept responsibility for the 700 or so people with this condition in their area, but I know so well that for most people with Asperger’s, or any autistic spectrum disorder, the unfolding story of their lives is one of difficulty, frustration and misunderstanding. My work aims to interrupt that pattern and replace it with one of ambition and success, and I am convinced that coaching helps in a real way, and that it is an affordable and valuable tool to use if your life is not unfolding as you want it – if you or yours have Asperger’s this is more likely to be true. Coaching is not yet well understood, and there is only one of me, so I am reaching out across the country this year in order to spread the word and find more ways to share what works with more people. I have a number of dates on which I will be away from London (hopefully near to you!), and on these dates I will be offering a training course that really gets into what one person can do to support healthy development in a person with Asperger’s. I will also be running a connection workshop for people with Asperger’s, a workshop for parents that will help to develop what you need to exert your influence more powerfully, and will take a day to meet individual families. If you are interested to know more, take a look at the next newsletter article. or see this page for dates and booking. I am also in planning to open a centre for people with Asperger’s in North London this spring – there is a vast need for somewhere safe for people to go, somewhere which will have an atmosphere that allows people to be calm and purposeful. I am hoping to create it as a club so that members can have the maximum sense of ownership and can learn from that experience, and to run classes and groups that will encourage creativity and self awareness. More news later, but in the meantime if you are interested, in this idea or any others, please contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Old Queens head at Islington is the next chance to see him play. Contact Robyn at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
